Petit Scholar Undergraduate Research Program
The Petit Scholars program offers year-long research opportunities in IBB labs, pairing undergraduates with graduate mentors across diverse fields like biomaterials, cancer biology, and regenerative medicine — preparing future leaders in science and engineering.
Program Overview
The Petit Scholars program began in 2000 as a summer research experience and has grown into a year-long opportunity for top undergraduates from Georgia Tech and Atlanta partner institutions. More than 500 students have participated, gaining hands-on experience in faculty labs and mentorship that prepares them for advanced degrees and careers in research, medicine, and industry.
Scholars work alongside graduate mentors in diverse fields such as biomaterials, cancer biology, chemical biology, regenerative medicine, and computational biology. This immersive training provides a strong foundation in science and engineering while offering mentors valuable leadership experience.
Support Students
Funding for the Petit Scholars is supported by Atlanta area community members, on-campus research centers, individual, and corporate sponsorship. If you are interested in donating to this valuable program, please email petitscholars@ibb.gatech.edu.
