Spinning Disk Confocal #1 (EBB Building)

This PerkinElmer UltraVIEW VoX is one of two spinning disk confocal microscopes available through the Optical Microscopy Core. This system is equipped with six laser excitation lines and an EM-CCD camera for highly sensitive detection. It is ideal for a variety of live cell imaging experiments. A stage top incubator is available for live cell imaging. The scope body is equipped with Nikon’s PerfectFocus 3 to minimize z-axis drift during time-lapse imaging. An LED transilluminator is used for fast brightfield and DIC illumination switching.

CytoViva Darkfield Microscope (EBB Building)

The CytoViva advanced darkfield illumination system uses a specialized illuminator that focuses fixed-geometry, highly collimated light at oblique angles on the sample. This system can enhance the signal-to-noise ratio of non fluorescing samples. This system is especially useful for unstained samples and samples that with non fluorescent tags, such as gold or silver particles.

Zeiss Light Sheet Z.1 (EBB Building)

The Lightsheet Z.1 allows for optical sectioning and high-resolution imaging of living or cleared samples with minimal photobleaching and minimal phototoxicity. Applications include morphogenesis, embryogenesis in zebrafish and Drosophila, organogenesis and cell dynamics in embryos, small organisms for cardiac development, blood flow, vascular development and neuro-development and calcium imaging, 3D cell cultures for spheroids and cysts and tissue/organotypic cultures, optically cleared specimens using CLARITY, plants, and marine animals such as ciona, squid, plankton and flatworms.

Zeiss LSM 780 and Elyra PS.1 (Petit Institute – IBB 1325)

The Elyra PS.1 system allows for imaging beyond the diffraction limit of standard confocal microscopy. The PS.1 system utilizes either Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM) to increase the resolving capabilities down to approximately 100nm or Photo Activation Light Microscopy (PALM) to resolve down to 20 nm. TIRF optics, an integrated FCS analysis module and photon counting capabilities are also available with the system.

Bruker Investigator Upright Multiphoton Microscope (EBB 4163)

The Bruker Ultima Investigator is an upright multiphoton microscope designed for both intravital and in vitro microscopy. The microscope body itself moves is motorized in X, Y and Z so samples may remain fixed in place. The objective nose piece tilts up to 90 degrees for off axis imaging. The laser is a Coherent Chameleon Discovery with two synchronized laser lines, a 680-1300nm tunable line and a 1040nm fixed. This system has two GaAsP detectors, standard galvos and resonant scanners, and a Becker-Hickl SPC-150 module for lifetime imaging (FLIM). A GPIO box allows for input and output triggers and analog signals generated by the system enable interaction with external devices for sensory stimulation, electrical recording, and other experimental devices.

The Bruker Vutara-352 is a super-resolution microscope designed for single molecule localization techniques such as dSTORM and PALM. BioTek Cytation 3 Imaging Plate reader w/ BioSpa 8 (IBB 0410)

The BioTek Cytation 3 is a cell imaging multi-mode microplate reader that combines automated digital microscopy and conventional monochromator based microplate detection. The microscope component is equipped with 1.25X, 4X, 10X and 20X objectives and can collect brightfield as well as fluorescent images (DAPI, GFP, RFP and CY5) via LED illumination. The reader accepts plates from 6-well to 384 well configuration, microscope slides, 35mm and 50 mm dishes and T-25 cell culture flasks. Fluorescence measurements range from 250nm – 700nm and luminescence measurement from 300nm – 700nm.
