The Defense Medical Research and Development Program released its FY 2018 Accelerating Innovation in Military Medicine (AIMM) solicitation, which seeks “highly creative and conceptually innovative high-risk research with the potential to accelerate critical discoveries or major advancements that will significantly impact military health and medicine.”  According to the solicitation, proposals should ultimately impact “at least one of DOD’s medical research programs:

•             Medical Simulation and Information Sciences

•             Military Infectious Diseases

•             Military Operational Medicine

•             Combat Casualty Care

•             Radiation Health Effects

•             Clinical and Rehabilitative Medicine”

As with other DOD biomedical and health-related research programs, investigators are highly encouraged to propose cross-cutting projects that align with other DOD research labs and programs, including collaboration with DOD and/or VA investigators.  Further, the FY 2018 competition is very interested in proposals that use “synthetic or systems biology-based approaches or focused on autonomous healthcare.”
