Research Technologist I

Position Summary

The Marcus Center for Therapeutic Cell Characterization and Manufacturing is bringing together bioengineers, manufacturing engineers, and industrial engineers to work closely with cell biologists, clinicians, and industry partners to ultimately make cell therapy manufacturing reliable, reproducible and amenable for broad clinical use. We are looking for a highly motivated and creative engineer or scientist to join this dynamic team and contribute from the beginning to establish MC3M as a premier authority of cell characterization, manufacturing, and scale-up process development. The right individual should have experience in cell culture expansion and characterization (genome, proteome, biophysics, etc.) as well as exposure to and working understanding of GLP and GMP procedures. Most importantly, this individual should demonstrate flexibility and the ability to learn quickly in a newly established environment to help lay a strong foundation for success. MC3M has secured funding through 2020 and will increase funding sources between now and then, which this role will support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist MC3M staff with reporting and coordinating MC3M milestone progress reviews, briefing announcements and technical reports
  • Conduct MC3M related research with the direction of MC3M staff and external partners
  • Collaborate and assist other MC3M-related researchers to complete projects on schedule
  • Assist in establishing proper Quality Control measures for MC3M
  • Document experimental procedures, protocols, and results according to appropriate standards (ex. GLP, GMP)
  • Qualify incoming research materials and release according to protocol
  • Audit and maintain laboratory inventory and supplies
  • Author and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist with manuscript preparation, grant proposal writing, and intellectual property management

  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced cross-functional environment, in the absence of set procedures and oversight
  • BS with 2+ years experience in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, or other biotechnology related field
  • Background in mammalian cell culture, cell characterization techniques (ex. Extraction, Isolation, and Analysis of Protein, DNA, RNA, Biophysical and Morphological assessments)


  • Experience with MSCs, iPSCs, and CAR T activation
  • Experience with conducting and maintaining GLP and GMP procedures
  • Knowledge of Quality by Design / Design for 6-sigma development practices
  • Experience with bioinformatics and big data analytics
  • Advanced Degree in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, or other biotechnology related field
